    The Opportunity

    Applications are being accepted for the position of Lead Licenced Truck & Coach Technician in the Operations Department. Reporting to the Program Manager Fleet Maintenance or Fleet Supervisor. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of the business operating system of the Fleet Services Division, the roles and responsibilities of the management team and their inter-relationship with internal fleet stakeholders. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City’s Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Vision for an inclusive, connected and prosperous city.

    Your role

    You will:

    • Assist the Division with the maintenance of the City’s Transit Fleet
    • Assist with the development, co-ordination and scheduling of work plans
    • Assist in the on-going evolution and development of reasonable expectancies
    • Assist in monitoring the Division’s compliance with established customer service standards
    • Assist with the identification, resolution and reporting of planned activity variances
    • Daily assignment of work to work teams
    • Acquire material and equipment required to execute work plans
    • Provide technical direction to work crews as required
    • Assist with the training and development of team members
    • Represent the department in a professional manner with internal and external contacts
    • Documenting work crew activities
    • Perform maintenance/repair activities as required
    • Perform other related duties as assigned
    • Comply with all applicable regulations, policies and procedures

    Qualifications

    1. Considerable experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through a Grade 12 education and 5 years’ experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

    2. Must possess a valid Truck & Coach Technician Licence (310T)

    3. Possession of 310S Automotive Service Technician is considered an asset

    4. Strong leadership abilities, Interpersonal and communication skills with experience in directing and assigning work to others, including training and monitoring work performance.

    5. Must possess a valid Class 'C-Z' licence with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their licence is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.

    6. Demonstrated knowledge & experience of relevant maintenance procedures, technology and equipment related to transit vehicles

    7. Must be able to perform physical work (e.g. heavy lifting, repetitive tasks, various levels of standing, climbing, sitting & crouching as required)

    8. Sound organizational skills, initiative and ability to perform tasks independently and prioritize the work of others.

    9. Demonstrates integrity, diplomacy and understanding of confidentiality and privacy issues.

    10. Sound judgement and decision-making skills.

    11. Ability to manage multiple tasks, while working under pressure to balance competing priorities, complimented by Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

    12. Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders and the general public.

    13.Intermediate functionality with MS office software, particularly Excel and relevant work order systems (i.e., Synergen/WAM)

    14. Must be able to work with or without supervision

    15. Must possess good team skills and have a sincere focus on quality customer service

    16. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

    Rate

    $38.00 per hour
