CUTRIC OPTA RESEARCH PROPOSAL.pdf

In December 2016, OPTA engaged CUTRIC to undertake a collaborative consultation process with Ontario transit systems, the outcome of which will be a transit-led Cap and Trade submission for the Ontario government by Fall 2017. To date, it is unclear whether Cap and Trade in the future will grant credits to transit agencies as they convert to low or zero-carbon options.  As part of its assessment and analysis, CUTRIC will explore the potential for new revenue generation within transit agencies, as they transition to greener fleets or as ridership grows and displaces single occupancy vehicles. This assessment will include recommendations to government as to how transit could or should be enabled to generate carbon credits or offsets that can be sold in a carbon marketplace in the future.

The first of five thematic  stakeholder sessions was held at OTE.  The second session is scheduled for Monday June 12th at York Region Transit’s Richmond Hill facility. All transit systems are strongly encouraged to attend each of the five sessions as they build on the learnings from previous sessions and will inform OPTA’s advocacy going forward.
