AGENDA

The theme of the 2015 Transit Symposium is "The Role of Public Transit in City Building".  Please join us as we  profile success stories from across the Province which demonstrate how public transit can shape and influence your community in meaningful ways.  Speakers will provide insight into the changes in philosophy and planning policy that allowed their cities to get out ahead of the curve.

Keynote Address -  Prof. Jeff Casello of the University of Waterloo

Introduce your elected officials to Mayors and Councillors from across Ontario that have successfully implemented "City Building" transit initiatives.

Panel members will present local success stories relating to the role public transit has played in their community, followed by an interactive question period with all participants.

Mayor Bonnie Crombie, Mississauga

Mississauga recently received confirmation of provincial funding for its Hurontario LRT, and recently opened the first four stations of the 18-station transitway, due for completion in 2017.  Mayor Crombie will share her insights and explain why improved transit was a key part of her 2014 election platform.

MiWay Transitway Tour

A specially guided tour of the Mississauga Transit (MiWay) 18 kilometer bus rapid transit system, including the new terminal facilities opened in November 2014.
